Red Star Building

The Red Star Building is located on East 9th Street in Augusta, Georgia. Originally named the Palace Theatre, it opened in 1920, catering to an African American audience. The Palace Theatre is the only African American theatre in Augusta still standing. The Palace Theatre was then transformed into the Red Star Restaurant which also served as a hotel for African American performers. The building was later abandoned and left without upkeep for many years. When CB Architects began renovation on the building, it had to be stripped down to the bones. During construction the front façade of the building fell down into the street. The front was able to be rebuilt to match the original, and the building was transformed into four residential apartment units and multiple retail units.
